The Horowhenua Taste Trail are proud to announce agri-lending specialist, Rabobank New Zealand as the principal partner of the 2017 event which takes place on Saturday 25 November.
Now in its second year, the Horowhenua Taste Trail provides an opportunity to get behind the scenes with some of the Horowhenua’s leading food producers and to sample delicious fresh produce, directly from the source.

A wide array of agricultural sectors are represented in this year’s line-up of producers which includes Turks Poultry, Bagrie Dairy Farms, vegetable grower Woodhaven Gardens, Levin Eels and Tendertips Asparagus.

Horowhenua Taste Trail Chairman Antony Young says the Taste Trail committee are delighted to have Rabobank join the Taste Trail family.

“Rabobank supports a range of farmers and other food and agribusiness enterprises throughout New Zealand, including many here in the Horowhenua region,” Mr Young says.

“This strong commitment to the Horowhenua region’s food and agribusiness sector makes Rabobank an ideal principal partner for the Taste Trail and we’re thrilled to have them on board.”
Rabobank’s Feilding branch manager, Astie Williamson, says the Taste Trail provides a terrific opportunity for the producers involved to showcase their operations and for the public to learn more about food production.

“One of the topics that is regularly raised by our clients is the need to educate the wider community, and in particular the younger generation, about how food gets from paddock to plate.”
“The need for further education on this topic was reinforced last year when the bank conducted research with urban teenagers that found over 80 per cent saying they know only a little or nothing about farming and food production,” Mr Williamson said.

“The Taste Trail is a fantastic initiative that will help to address this issue as well as highlighting the diverse range of food that is grown and produced in the Horowhenua region. We already have strong relationships with many of the producers involved in the Trail and we’re very proud to be the principal partner for this year’s event.”

Alongside Rabobank, Mr Young said the Taste Trail has significant support from other well-known businesses. Partners on board for the 2017 event include Associate Partners Horowhenua District Council, Oji Fibre Solutions, BNZ, MG Marketing, Horizons Regional Council, Countdown. Supporting Partners include, Electra Group, Horowhenua Motor Company, Horowhenua Learning Centre, Fluker Denton Limited, CS Law, Fonterra and Federated Farmers.

“We are excited to have so many passionate organisations behind us who are just as enthusiastic about the Taste Trail as we are. We couldn’t run the Taste Trail without their contributions,” Mr Young said.
