What's to Eat?

The Horowhenua Taste Trail is taking place on Saturday 23 November 2019 from 10am - 4pm. We are a Taste Trail, so enjoying good food is very important to us! Throughout the Trail you can enjoy the very finest Horowhenua produce. These dishes are brought to you by cafes and restaurants who have partnered with our producers to offer a gourmet food experience. Entrée size plates of food showcasing the produce in its finest form created by top chefs from throughout New Zealand. These can be pre-purchased as a part of the Mains Ticket. A limited number will be available on the day, at an additional cost.

Horowhenua Taster Plates

​Delicious entrée size plates of food showcasing the produce in its finest form created by top chefs from throughout New Zealand.
These Plates come with your Mains Ticket. If you’re on an Entry ticket, only a limited number will be available on the day.

​Yatai Japanese Izakaya Restaurant
Yatai is an award winning Japanese restaurant in Palmerston North, where dining is a special experience. Established by an ex-Japanese rescue diver who moved to the Manawatu, twenty years ago, Chef Atsushi Taniyama prides himself on following the traditional Japanese style of cooking. Yatai proudly uses the best quality ingredients, and encourage a sharing style of dining. They strive to be environmentally responsible, and have been sourcing Turk’s free range chicken for many years. For the Trail, they’ll be back at Turk’s offering a series of authentic Japanese dishes, including Atsushi’s famous chicken curry.

​Ocean Beach Eatery
Ocean Beach Eatery opened at Foxton Beach in 2018, as a bustling beachside bar. It joins The Little White Rabbit, which has been around for five years and brought city culture to the Beach. Owners Anita & Nigel have become renowned for their healthy, indulgent and seasonal menu, and freshly made baking. Nigel is the Executive Chef at both establishments and his menu heroes local produce, with Tendertips Asparagus, and now Lewis Farm strawberries, a firm favourite.

Capitol is a bustling bistro in Mt Victoria: perennially busy, family run, serving tasty fare with a strong focus on local, seasonal ingredients. Tom Hutchison has headed the kitchen for 17 years, creating elegant and timeless food that has become a staple of the Wellington food scene. Capitol will be at Genoese for this year’s Taste Trail.

La Boca Loca serves up new twists on classic Mexican food in a fun, relaxed atmosphere, using the freshest, sustainably sourced ingredients. Owner and Chef Lucas Putnam grew up eating Mexican food in California.For the Trail, they are partnering with Woodhaven Gardens to transform the humble vegetable into a range of Mexican masterpieces

Taste Trail Lunchbox

Want to keep your little ones occupied munching their way around the Trail?
We have two very yummy options just for the kids! Taste Trail Lunchboxes are available by pre-order only, as  part of the Mains Tickets for under 12 year olds.
Pick up your lunchbox between 10am – 2pm from Artisan Kitchen, at the Bagrie Dairy Farm.

What's to Drink?

This year we have three Garden Bars, serving wine, beer, sodas and the odd cocktail. Choose your drink of choice that will quench your thirst, or a coffee or milk, at other sites.
For the first time, we have an official event Beer Partner. Brew Union Brewing Co have created a special Horowhenua Golden Ale for the event.
